Muddle Mayhem

Decluttering my home – and life – one piece of junk at a time…

I did it! I really did it!

I haven’t posted in a few days because honestly, it’s been way too overwhelming. But I will tell you this:

MY HOUSE LOOKS AWESOME

It looks great, it feels incredible and the best news of all…

Our house was approved yesterday to go forth with our foster care application.

Needless to say that paperwork was filled out within minutes and I’ll be on my way to deliver them this morning.

THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING!!!

Now that the house is looking so wonderful, it’s time to maintain it. I need a plan!

I still have loads of work to do: Basement, Garage and Bean’s bedroom. And with the calendar year should come a new 52 small project list. These are all things I’ll be working on in the next few days.

Jan 8 Todo/Tadas

I am feeling extremely nauseous at the moment. Why? Because I asked for volunteers to help me clean my house. Today is the day those volunteers are coming over and I’m not ready. My house is still a mess. I’m stressing over this and I really shouldn’t! These volunteers are here to help me with the mess right? It’s a catch 22! But still I’m very nauseous knowing they are on their way.

So far today, I’ve:

  • cleaned the kitchen
  • organized the donations pile which hubby is on his way to drop it all off as I type this
  • started dinner
  • attempted to sweep

There is sooooo much to do and I don’t know where to start! Here’s the list

Decluttering Calendar

Beth over at My Simpler Life releases a great Decluttering Calendar every year. And every year, I print it out and put on the fridge… never to look at it again. The idea is great. The intentions are really there but I simply haven’t had the right brain environment to go through with the plan!

This year is a little different. For one, I have a blog I love to chat on and show my progress. And two, I’ve been on this mission for the past two months. This is exactly what I’m doing. So why not give this list another try. Except this time, I’m NOT going to print it out. Oh no no no no no… that’s just more clutter. I’ll just link it up here to visit every day. I like that idea much much better! 😉

Resolutions?!?

I have to take a moment to bring something to my own attention.

It’s 2012 – It’s not just another day… it’s a new year. And in every other aspect in my life, it doesn’t make a difference.

But I have to force myself to make one.

I’ve spent the last two months decluttering this home little by little. My main floor looks amaaaaazing! And although I’m not one to make any resolutions just because we’ve hung a new calendar on the wall, I want to ensure that I’m going to upkeep the hard work I’ve put forth.

I don’t want to be among the people that make grand plans just to fail them 3 weeks later.

  • I’m not going to promise to lose 50 lbs (although that would be awesome!) however I do want to make an effort in meal planning which leads to healthier eating.
  • I’m not going to promise to exercise every day however I do want to make use of the new Kinect games we got for Christmas and since our living room is decluttered now, we actually have the room to just plop and play! I do also have a YMCA membership that I don’t take advantage of so maybe I can work on dragging my butt over since I love their spinning classes! Something I’d like to eventually incorporate in my busy schedule.
  • I’m not going to promise to keep my house clean at all times however I am going to maintain what I’ve accomplished and I will tackle the rest in small weekly projects.

I have sooo much to look forward to in the next few months. No need to distract myself with planning and failing resolutions 🙂

Jan 3 Todo/Tada

So I did it – I called the society this morning but she’s away until tomorrow…. LOL

That’s OK. That gives me a whole day to work on the rest of the house. I spent some time writing every task down to help me stay focus. I won’t be finishing this list today but hopefully, I’ll attack a good chunk of it! Besides, I do have some errands to run today as well.

Here it is…

Main Floor

  • Front hall
  • White Shelf
  • Kitchen
  • Aquariums

Maintenance

  • Donation pile
  • Knitting corner
  • Laundry pile

Bathroom #1

  • Organize under sink
  • Organize cupboard

Master Bedroom

  • Make my bed with brand new sheets
  • Clear hubby’s flooreverything is now on my bed
  • Closet panel A
  • Closet panel B
  • Closet panel C
  • Bed

Even though I only completely one side of the floor and the closet today, the room already feels lighter. Only two bins left on that side – clothes to go through and donations. On my bed is a bin of unmatched socks. I’m going to pop a movie in and start matching!

  • Hubby’s night table
  • My dresser
  • My floor
  • My night table
  • Corner pile
  • Hubby’s dresser
  • Vaccuum

Baby’s Room

  • Clear office furniture
  • Vaccuum
  • Place baby furniture

Hallway

  • Clear & Vaccuum
  • Place laundry basket

Office

  • Bag laundry
  • Bring the couch up to living room
  • Move office furniture
  • Put stuff away (books)
  • Start clearing boxes

Broken down like this, it really doesn’t seem to be that bad!!! Off I go…

1 more sleep…

There is only one more sleep until I call the society for our application.

One more sleep…

I told hubby I’m not ready.

WHAT?!?!?!

Am I getting cold feet? Aboslutely not… just a little nervous! Although my main floor looks FABULOUS, the rest of the house isn’t ready. I am not at peace with sending in our application when my house isn’t ready – we are not ready.

It took us two months to get this far. What’s one more week or two to make sure everything is in order?

What’s left on my todo list:

  • Move the aquariums
  • Clear the hallway white shelf
  • Arrange the office and start setting up the computers
  • Our bedroom

But then something inside me screams: GO FOR IT ANYWAY!!!!! lol

So tomorrow I will call to find out when the classes start and I will ‘possibly’ make an appointment for our first home visit next week or the next. It only makes sense right?

Progress…. Ahhhh!

I walked through the main floor for something while hubby and Bean were in the livingroom. The lights are all on and my first reaction is:

OH NO Turn the lights off, our neighboors can see inside…..

Oh wait a minute, the house is clean LET THEM LOOK!!!

hahahahahahahahahahahhaha!!!!

I love this new feeling!

Menu Plan for this week

I’m sooooo excited for posting my very first menu plan. As mentioned in a previous post, I planned my menu for the whole month with ease so this morning, hubby and I went grocery shopping for what we would need this week. Unfortunately, there were a lot of basic things to buy such as vinegar and dish soap so the total was a tad high. But I can see how this is going to save us money in the long run. I’m sooooo excited!

So our menu this week consists of:

Lunch

Monday: Turkey Wrap
Tuesday: Chicken Asparagus & Tomato Salad
Wednesday: Teriyaki Beef
Thursday: Leftover Soup from Tuesday
Friday: Salad with Deli meat
Saturday: Lentil Stew
Sunday: Thai Chicken Curry w/Rice

Dinner:

Monday: Cabbage Rolls
Tuesday: Red Soup
Wednesday: Sausage & Egg
Thursday: Turkey Sandwiches
Friday: Pizza:
Saturday: Beef Patties
Sunday: I can’t tell you, Hubby always surprises us 🙂

Tonight’s dinner was surprisingly yummy LOL and I only say that because as I’m serving everyone, they ALL say: “Mom, we don’t like Cabbage rolls!” Oops… but they ate it AND enjoyed it! So HA!! lol Minime’s boyfriend, who absolutely does NOT like cabbage, even had seconds!
